Why blocked downspouts matter in an Ontario winter
When a downspout cannot drain, water backs up into the trough and sits there. In freeze-thaw cycles that standing water expands, pulls hangers loose and forms ice dams at the roof edge. On the ground, overflow saturates the soil beside the foundation, which is the usual first step toward a damp basement. Clearing downspouts in late fall is cheap insurance against all of it.

How do I know my downspout is clogged?
Run a hose into the top of the trough near the downspout. If water backs up or trickles out the bottom instead of running out steadily, there is a blockage — usually in the upper elbow.
Can you clear underground drain lines?
We clear the downspout itself and the visible outlet. Buried drain lines that run under a driveway or into a weeping system need a drain specialist, and we will tell you if that is what you are looking at rather than guessing.
Is downspout cleaning included with eavestrough cleaning?
Yes. Every full eavestrough clean includes flushing the downspouts, because clearing one without the other does not fix the drainage.
How often should downspouts be cleared?
Once a year for most GTA homes, and twice a year if your roof sits under mature trees.
